"passion for restoring furniture"

Welcome

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to view my web site and see some of the most memorable pieces I have had the privilege of working on which have been entrusted to me by the most important people, my customers.

Since the setting up of my business in 1980 it has enabled me to meet, discuss and advise customers about the restoration required on their own pieces and share with them my passion which is to see, touch and handle furniture that has been loved and cared for.

I consider it a great privilege to be involved in the restoration and conservation process to preserve the history and dignity of their pieces while retaining the items character.

Present

I undertake work for private customers working closely with these people to restore their most cherished pieces of furniture. I also work for trade clients, removal companies, loss adjusters and major insurance companies to restore pieces of furniture whether they have been damaged by fire, flood, general removals or accidental damage.

Past

My passion for working with wood started as a young lad when picking up a piece of timber and creating something with it. This developed further when taking woodwork at school and since then I have always loved the touch, feel and smell of timber.

I moved to Norfolk after finishing my education and started working for an antique dealer in Great Yarmouth who employed me as an apprentice cabinet maker. This is where my love for restoring antique furniture began.

After working there for about eight years I felt that it was time to develop my skills even further because I wanted to create and make new pieces. I worked for a subsidiary company of Arthur Brett's and Sons called Tobel Reproductions who specialised in making copies of original antique period furniture with a modern function. I was then promoted to be in charge of the oak section, which made tables, dressers, chairs, sideboards etc all out of solid oak.

Then a new opportunity opened up for me within the company. A number of their customers were seeking one off bespoke pieces, which were not part of the normal production run. This in turn led me to working on my own with the designer to fulfil these objectives. This was a very satisfying experience, particularly when talking with customers about their individual requirements, sharing their aspirations and resolving the technical problems associated with some of their designs. To see the creative process start on the drawing board, coming to fruition and then to witness the satisfaction and joy on customers' faces for me, made it all worthwhile and was a very fulfilling and rewarding experience.
