Bespoke Pieces

I am sometimes asked to convert a piece of antique furniture to make it more functional or make a special piece.

Here are some examples of what I have created:

Two Part Oak Corner Cupboard

I was asked to come up with a base section for this cupboard to enable the owner to remember this piece as it was when they were a child.
I had to source the correct oak and carefully design the base section to match the top before it was re polished to match the top section as closely as possible.

Linen Press Conversion

I converted this piece into a secretaire bookcase. The top drawer had to be converted and the cornice had to be altered to match the top section once it had been reduced. Mahogany panels were removed from the door frames, which were converted into two Gothic glazed doors. Shelves were made and fitted.
The new drawer fronts and fret panels were veneered in satinwood, part of the base interior and fall was lined with green baize, and the alterations were polished, matched out and blended in.

Bespoke Marbled Columns

Having bought two bronze figures, this customer required a column for each one to stand on. The component parts were made in a modern board material for stability and the main columns were constructed first, with the plinths and tops added later. The tops and sides were given mouldings, the columns were marbled with patterns and the designs were chosen from a pattern book to match the decor of the rooms where the bronze figures would be displayed.

Bedside Cupboards Copied From Bow Fronted Cabinet

I was asked to create a pair of bedside cupboards based on a commode which had been converted into a separate cupboard.
It took a considerable amount of work to create the cabinet, before the panels were curved to match the original doors. Mahogany curl veneers also had to be chosen and cut back so that I could inlay the ebony lines and cross band in mahogany veneer.

The doors were fitted and hung, and the piece was polished.
